Urban design and architectural excellence play an important role in maintaining and enhancing the quality of life in Toronto, and the Toronto Architecture and Urban Design Awards help promote public and private awareness of that role. Submission deadline is in February 2005, and the awards ceremony will be in May to coincide with other architectural events. Each submission, except for Visions, Master Plans, and Student Projects, must be completed projects within the city’s boundaries, and no project should be older than 5 years, or built before the year 2000. The City of Toronto is enhancing its Architecture and Urban Design Awards program for 2005, and the categories now include elements; buildings; small open spaces; large places or neighbourhood designs; visions and master plans; and student awards.
