Every two years, the Alberta Association of Architects, the Saskatchewan Association of Architects and the Manitoba Association of Architects celebrate those setting new standards of creativity and skill in architecture and interior design. This tri-provincial collaboration has been recognizing design excellence in the prairies since its inauguration in 2000. Submissions are now being accepted until February 15, 2011 for the 2012 Prairie Design Awards.
Two types of awards may be awarded: Award of Excellence and Award of Merit. In past years, Awards of Excellence and Awards of Merit have been conveyed to projects and practices across the prairies in the categories of Recent Work, Interior Design, and Heritage Restoration. In 2012, the categories will be Recent Work, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture and Small Projects.
The biennial Awards presentation will be held on April 27, 2012 as part of the Alberta Association of Architects’ highly regarded conference, 2012 Banff Session (www.banffsession.ca).
Each year, the Prairie Design Awards Committee brings in highly regarded professionals to adjudicate the awards. The 2012 jurors will be Dan Hanganu of Dan S. Hanganu Architects (Montreal), David Battersby from Battersby Howat (Vancouver), and Diana Gerrard with gh3 (Toronto).
