A new partnership has been formed between Busby + Associates Architects and Perkins & Will, and will be based in western Canada. This merger draws upon the broad international strength and specialization of Perkins & Will along with Busby + Associates’ long history of design excellence and expertise in sustainability. The new partnership, Busby Perkins + Will Architects Co. will be led by Peter Busby, who along with the Associates and staff, will continue to grow the practice, and further develop their internationally acclaimed leadership position in sustainable design and planning. To date, the firm has garnered over 60 design awards, including six Canadian Governor General’s Awards, nine Lieutenant Governor of BC Awards for architectural innovation and excellence, and an American Institute of Architects (AIA) Top 10 Green Building Award for sustainable design. Since its establishment 20 years ago, Busby + Associates has grown considerably. Now with over 60 employees, offices in Vancouver, Calgary and Seattle, the firm has broadened its national and international profile featuring projects in many Canadian cities, the US and Europe. Founded in 1935, Perkins & Will has remarkable international experience with successful projects in over 40 countries. It is one of the most respected global design firms for both client service and design excellence, and was declared "Firm of the Year" by the American Institute of Architects in 1999. These two firms have been collaborating on several projects since 2002, including a current major hospitality project in Los Angeles. New areas of expertise to be introduced in British Columbia are health care, laboratory design, science and technology, and education.
