Brian MacKay-Lyons, FRAIC, will be the opening reception keynote speaker on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 discussing the Festival theme – Value of Beauty – Integrity in Architecture, which will no doubt set the tone for the rest of the gathering.
MacKay-Lyons is a partner at MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects, a firm that has built an international reputation for Design Excellence with more than 100 awards including six Governor General Medals, two American Institute of Architects Honor Awards for Architecture, 15 Lieutenant Governor’s Medals of Excellence, seven Canadian Architect Awards, three Architectural Record Houses Awards, and seven North American Wood Design Awards.
He is also a full professor of architecture at Dalhousie University, having contributed to architectural education in the Atlantic region for 30 years. He has held numerous visiting professorships and endowed academic chairs at leading universities. Since 1994 he has held an annual international summer internship called Ghost on his farm.
The 2013 RAIC Festival of Architecture, presented in association with the Nova Scotia Association of Architects, will take place June 5-8, 2013 at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel and Convention Centre.
