For the second edition of the Master Class series 2015, Index-design presents architect Brendan MacFarlane, who delivers a lecture at 6:00pm on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Espace Infopresse in Montreal. Don’t miss this opportunity to spend an evening with the co-founder of Paris-based firm Jakob+MacFarlane who will discuss recent work of the office.

Established in 1992, Jakob+MacFarlane architects is a multidisciplinary and multicultural studio whose work explores digital technologies, using new materials as way of creating a more flexible and responsible environment.

MacFarlane was born in New Zealand and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in architecture in 1984 from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (Sci-ARC) in Los Angeles. He went on to achieve his Master’s degree in architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1990. In collaboration with Dominique Jakob, they have realized several striking iconic architectural projects in France, amongst them Restaurant Georges in the Centre Pompidou and the Cité de la Mode et du Design in Paris, and the Orange Cube and the Euronews headquarters, both located in Lyon.

The projects currently in progress include the Conservatoire de Danse et Musique à Noisy-le-Sec, the reconstruction of a Gaumont-Pathé theatre complex in Paris, and the construction of a multi-usage tower in Knokke-Heist, Belgium. MacFarlane has taught in several architecture schools internationally, including the Harvard School of Design, Sci-Arc, the University of Florida, and the Bartlett School of Architecture. He is a special guest juror for the Architectural Association of London, and will adjudicate Azure magaine’s AZ Awards for design excellence this year.

The work of Jakob+MacFarlane has enjoyed global recognition, having received the International Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum in 2014. Furthermore, they were nominated for the Mies van der Rohe European Architecture Award in 2015. Their efforts have resulted in the publication of the firm’s work in several prestigious publications, such as the Architectural Record, A+U, Architecture Now and the Architectural Review. Their projects have been exhibited in various museums around the world, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the SFMOMA in San Francisco, the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Artist Space in New York, and the Museum of Architecture in Moscow.

Espace Infopresse is located at 4319 Boulevard Saint-Laurent in Montreal.
