Asymptote’s Lise Anne Couture speaks at the University of Calgary

Join the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Environmental Design (EVDS) for a Design Matters lecture by Lise Anne Couture, a principal of Asymptote Architecture, the highly acclaimed New York-based practice that she co-founded with Hani Rashid in 1989.

Through its award winning design projects and buildings Asymptote has gained an international reputation for being at the forefront of design and technological innovation. The firm has gained a reputation for pushing the boundaries of the discipline and engages in a broad range of design disciplines including architecture, master planning, art installations and design.

Recently completed projects include a 40,000-square-foot exhibition pavilion in South Korea, a luxury residential building at 166 Perry Street in New York City, and the 500-room Yas Hotel located in Abu Dhabi.

Couture and her partner Rashid have been awarded the prestigious Frederick Kiesler Prize for Architecture and the Arts in recognition of exceptional contributions to the progress and merging of art and architecture. They were named by TIME magazine as Leaders in Innovation for the 21st Century.

Couture has held several prestigious academic positions including visiting professorships at Yale University, Harvard Graduate, Princeton University, MIT, Cornell University, and SCI-Arc in addition to others. She has been on the faculty of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture since 1997 where she is currently holds an appointment as Professor in Practice.

The lecture takes place from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the University of Calgary’s downtown campus, located at 906 8th Avenue SW. Admission is $10; free for students.
