The application deadilne for the fall term of the Institute Without Boundaries is now April 30, 2008.
The Institute Without Boundaries is an interdisciplinary postgraduate program at the School of Design at George Brown College in Toronto that challenges students to collaborate on global problems. Their inaugural project, Massive Change, explored and sparked a discourse on the future of global design. Their second project, World House, confronts the issue of shelter for coming generations by developing housing systems that operate on the principles of sustainability, universality, technological responsiveness and ecological balance.
At the Institute, they envision a place where students, teachers industry and community experts come together not only as creators and designers but also ambassadors of hope. They imagine how to live, learn, work and play together as a global community. Their goal is to find alternative development patterns and a viable path to a sustaining future and allow the world to re-envision the designer as a problem solver with the ability to effect positive change for humanity.
The Institute Without Boundaries seeks to educate a new generation of designers who are able to collaborate, innovate, and put solutions into action. Each year, a select group of international students join the Institute to explore the potential that design has to effect change both locally and globally. They are now recruiting students for the 2008-2009 team.
This coming year, the World House Project will examine the role of intentional communities and their potential to engage and transform the world around them. At the Institute, students will research and develop original ideas in a team and interact with professionals, organizations, and communities from around the world.
