AIA New Orleans announce DesCours eight-day festival of architecture, art and music in New Orleans

DesCours, an eight-day festival featuring architecture, art and music in 19 locations throughout New Orleans, will run from December 7 to 14, 2008. More than 23 artists of international renown are participating with installations in the French Quarter, Central Business District and St. Roch neighbourhood. The celebration also features eight musical performances by local musicians.

Those expected to speak at the press conference include Melissa Urcan, executive director of AIA New Orleans and creator and organizer of DesCours; Mayor C. Ray Nagin; and Kurt Weigle, president and CEO of the Downtown Development District. Others expected to attend include participating artists, tourism leaders, members of the Arts Council of New Orleans, members of the Vieux Carr Commission, members of AIA New Orleans, and city officials.

AIA New Orleans is presenting the event partnership with KK Projects, the City of New Orleans Office of Recovery Management, the Downtown Development District (DDD), the Vieux Carr Commission (VCC) and the Arts Council of New Orleans (ACNO). The W Hotel is providing rooms for the artists throughout DesCours.

Sponsors include the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Louisiana Architecture Foundation, Tulane City Center, Renew Our Music Foundation, New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic, Reed Construction Data, and Eskew+Dumez+Ripple Architects.
