On Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at the historic Carlu, Heritage Toronto will celebrate outstanding contributions by individuals and community organizations, as well as industry professionals and associations, in promoting and conserving Toronto’s history and heritage landmarks. Hosting the Heritage Toronto Awards this year is CBC Radio’s Mary Ito.
In 2009, Heritage Toronto will be presenting its Special Achievement Award to long-time heritage advocate, Stephen Otto. In a bit of a departure from their usual format lecture, Heritage Toronto is hosting the Great Toronto Roast, a birthday party celebrating the city’s 175th year. Special guests of roasters and toasters will celebrate both Toronto’s triumphs and its foibles in a lively one-hour program.
Hosted by Soulpepper Theatre founder and actor Albert Schultz, the Roast will offer an array of guests who all have one thing in common – a love for their city. Appearing at the Roast will be former Mayor David Crombie, comedians from Second City, “Valerie Rosedale”/Don Harron, Dennis Lee, Jan Wong, Mayor David Miller, and others.
Join Heritage Toronto as they find moments to share laughter, as well as celebrate and reflect on their collective accomplishments.
Doors to the event open at 6:30pm, and the program begins at 7:15pm at the Carlu, located at 444 Yonge Street, 7th floor. General admission is $30; $25 for Heritage Toronto members and groups of 10 or more. Or, purchase a $100 ticket to a special pre-event Mayor’s Reception, which also includes admittance to the Awards and Roast.
Advance tickets can be purchased by calling 416.338.1338, e-mailing [email protected] or by visiting www.heritagetoronto.org.
Nominations for the 2009 Heritage Toronto Awards will be announced in the coming weeks on their website at www.heritagetoronto.org.
