2015 NXT City Competition

Toronto is growing young. A new wave of creative talent and civic leaders, most of them in their 20s or 30s, are making this city their home. Now is the time to reimagine what’s possible for Toronto’s public spaces and put your ideas to action with funding and support. The NXT City Prize is your opportunity to design what’s next for Toronto. This is your city; don’t let someone else build it.

The competition theme is “opportunity”: Toronto is teeming with opportunity, so how will you turn the possibilities into impact? The goal is to make Toronto great, how you do it is up to you. Think about structures, mobile apps, businesses, events or even pop-up installations. Can your idea make a public space more accessible or connect people in new and meaningful ways? Most importantly, can it create new opportunities?

This is your chance to actively shape the city you love. The winner of the 2015 NXT City Prize will work closely with the City of Toronto, local organizations, city councillors and BIAs to potentially implement the proposal.

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most powerful. People from all disciplines are encouraged to apply—artists, thinkers, entrepreneurs, designers, writers, architects, engineers, urban planners, landscape architects and more. Connect with people from other fields, form teams and leverage your best ideas and skills to put together a world-class submission.

This is an open competition for young people age 35 and under who must be residents of Canada. Submissions are welcome from individuals and teams of up to four people. Projects that were submitted in previous years are not eligible for resubmission.

The submission deadline is Friday, July 31, 2015 at 12:00 midnight. Late entries will not be accepted.

Fees are free for those under 18 (K-12); $25 for postsecondary students; and $50 for all other submissions. Please submit one digital copy or video link. Your entire digital submission must not exceed 20 MB

Presented by Oxford Properties.
