As part of Artcity 2004, the Arttalk Symposium has invited architects and designers working in various scales and media of art and architecture to speak on their personal practices and the significance of CURRENCY to design, art and architecture. The speakers are internationally recognized and awarded practitioners whose work has shown a defined understanding of the evolving cultural environments in which they practice. Guest speakers include George Yu, Peter Yeadon and Andrew King, and along with moderator Marc Boutin, all produce critical architectural and design projects which inherently examine issues of currency and value in the context of culture. While all participants have the shared experience of receiving the distinguished Prix de Rome Award, the symposium anticipates that the unique nature of each of their practices will contribute to a provocative debate on the topic of CURRENCY in architecture, design and visual art. This year’s Arttalk Symposium takes place at the Metropolitan Conference Centre in Calgary on September 18 from 12:00pm 4:00pm. Admission is free.
