The National Arts Centre is hosting a retrospective exhibition by co-curators Marco Polo and Colin Ripley from Ryerson University on the public buildings that were built to mark Canada’s 100th Anniversary in 1967. Past accomplishments will merge with future endeavours as the NAC looks forward to its 2017 architectural rejuvenation project.
As a companion event to the exhibition, the public is welcome to attend a lecture and tour at 11:00am on July 1, 2015 at the National Arts Centre’s (NAC) 4th Stage in Ottawa. The NAC’s Rosemary Thompson will moderate a panel discussion that includes the exhibition co-curators; Donald Schmitt, principal architect for the NAC’s 2017 rejuvenation; and heritage architect Barry Padolsky.
After the lecture, the public will be invited to tour the exhibition in the lobby of the NAC outside of Southam Hall. The exhibition features architectural projects including the National Arts Centre and the Confederation Centre for the Arts in Charlottetown along with many other buildings from across Canada. The exhibition catalogue, Architecture and National Identity: The Centennial Projects 50 Years On, will be available for purchase.
