Architectural Conservancy of Ontario NextGen Design Charrette 2015

ACO nextgen design charrette 2015
ACO nextgen design charrette 2015
For the fourth year in a row, the ACO NextGen is hosting a one-day design charrette for students and emerging professionals in the fields of architecture, planning, landscape architecture, built history, and heritage conservation. The charrette is intended to encourage creative thinking, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and provide networking opportunities with esteemed speakers and judges. This year’s project centres on Christie Pits Park. Although the park is well-used and well-loved by the community, they have recently expressed a desire for some updating. The ACO NextGen sees this as an opportunity to re-envision the park with an emphasis on heritage interpretation; using design to make the site’s history more tangible.

A panel of esteemed judges includes: Councillor Mike Layton, City of Toronto; Mary MacDonald, Toronto Heritage Preservation Services; Janet Rosenberg, Principal, Janet Rosenberg & Studio; Lara Herald, ERA Architects; and Kaitlin Wainwright, Heritage Toronto.

The charrette takes place from 8:30am to 6:00pm on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Dovercourt House, located at 805 Dovercourt Road in Toronto.

The Architectural Conservancy of Ontario (ACO) ‘NextGen’ was formed in late 2011 by emerging professionals for emerging professionals in order to meet the needs of the future of the built conservation field. NextGen’s goal is to engage young adults in the field of heritage and develop a sense of community. NextGen hosts events such as building/site tours, walking tours, job shadowing, charettes, and networking events. NextGen is a great way to expand your network and find valuable opportunities.
