Architect and furniture designer Lyndon Neri of Neri&Hu to appear at Inform Interiors
On June 30, 2015, Lyndon Neri of Shanghai- and London-based interdisciplinary architectural design practice Neri&Hu will be present at a reception and launch at Inform Interiors in Vancouver. Offering an authentic experience of the award-winning studio’s design sensibility, a unique domestic setting will feature both new and iconic products designed by Neri&Hu and crafted by luxury European woodworkers De La Espada.
New products include additions to the Frame Series: the Frame Bed with arms—an upholstered bed with a wraparound headboard—to which a brass tray can be clipped to the wooden frame for greater flexibility. Also new is the Commune series, consisting of a bench and stool which visually express a communal spirit, originally designed for the Das Haus exhibition at imm Cologne earlier this year.
January product launches will also be on display for the first time in Vancouver including the Shaker series, a dining table and chair that reinterpret the simplicity of the Shaker movement. Also to be shown are the original members of the Frame series, a sofa and bed that explore the architectural concept of tectonics, in which the construction of a piece is an essential part of its beauty.
The “home” within the Inform showroom will feature a domestic cage of sorts with an open structure that creates voyeuristic interior experiences, blurring the line between private and public spheres.
The opening reception takes place from 5:00pm and 7:00pm; Lyndon Neri will be in attendance to discuss his work. Exhibition dates for the new pieces runs from June 23 to July 23, 2015. Inform Interiors is located at 50 Water Street in Vancouver. Please RSVP your attendance to [email protected] as space is limited.
Founded in 2004 by partners Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, Neri&Hu Design and Research Office is an interdisciplinary architectural design practice based in Shanghai with an additional office in London. Neri&Hu works internationally providing architecture, interior, master planning, graphic and product design services.
Neri&Hu’s location is purposeful. With Shanghai considered a new global frontier, Neri&Hu is in the centre of this contemporary chaos. The city’s cultural, urban and historic contexts function as a point of departure for the architectural explorations involved in every project. Because new sets of contemporary problems relating to buildings now extend beyond traditional architecture, the practice challenges traditional boundaries of architecture to include other complementary disciplines.
Neri&Hu’s own product line, neri&hu, represents an aesthetic that is rooted in cultural provocation. With an intention to question the potential in Chinese design, neri&hu seeks alternatives to the normative. neri&hu is the reinterpretation of the beauty in the raw material, changing perceptions through what is revealed, examining history and its path, or capturing an ordinary scene in a snapshot. Luxury modern woodworker De La Espada manufactures for the neri&hu brand.
In addition to architecture, interiors and their own product line, Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu also actively work on a number of industrial design products for various brands in Europe including MOOOI, LEMA, Classicon, Gandia Blasco, Stellar Works, Meritalia and BD Barcelona Design.
