Alex Kisilevich named national winner in the 7th annual BMO 1st Art! Invitational Student Art Competition

A graduate of the Ontario College of Art & Design who is now pursuing his Master of Fine Arts from York University, Alex Kisilevich has been named the national winner of the 7th annual BMO 1st Art! Invitational Student Art Competition. Kisilevich’s piece, Untitled (legs), from the series …and then you die is a digital chromogenic print measuring 40 x 40 inches that forms part of an exhibition of original works of art by Canada’s most exceptional graduating student artists at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA) until November 1, 2009.


Celebrate the creative talent and artistic diversity of Canada’s best student artists chosen from more than 100 post secondary institutions nationwide. In addition to Kisilevich, 12 regional winners have also been awarded:

The esteemed judges for the 2009 competition are: Paul Butler, Artist, Curator and Director, The Other Gallery; Marnie Fleming, Curator of Contemporary Art, Oakville Galleries; Steven Loft, Curator in Eesidence, Indigenous Art, National Gallery of Canada; Camilla Singh, Independent Curator; Gilles G. Ouellette, President, BMO Private Client Group; and Dawn Cain, Curator, Corporate Art Collection, BMO Financial Group.


The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA) is located at 952 Queen Street West in Toronto. Admission to the gallery is free and is open Tuesday to Thursday from 11:00am to 6:00pm, Friday from 11:00am to 9:00pm and Sunday from 11:00am to 6:00pm.
