The town center of Akureyri, a picturesque town of 16.000 people located in northern Iceland, needs to be revitalized. A consortium of influential private companies is sponsoring this competition to solicit new ideas for planning and urban renewal in the town. The competition brief is available for download and is based on extensive consultation with stakeholders and the public.
“The City Council of Akureyri looks to the project Vision-Akureyri with great anticipation. We think highly of this enterprise and are expecting valuable and exciting results from the International Competition on Urban Renewal of the Town Centre,” said Kristjn Thr Jlusson, Mayor of Akureyri.

Last day for inquiries: January 14, 2005
Submission deadline: March 01, 2005
Results announced: April 14, 2005
Prizes awarded: April 21, 2005
The proponent and the jury reserve the right to change the last two dates above if necessary.
