7th annual CANstruction competition call for entries

CANstruction is a volunteer competition in support of the Daily Bread Food Bank where a team of architects, engineers, interior designers and students design and build structures made entirely out of canned foods and other non-perishable food items in a 10′ x 10′ x 8′ high space. All canned goods and food items used in each structure are donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank here in Toronto. Major cities across North America participate in this challenging event, and examples of the previous creations can be found on the Canstruction website at www.canstruction.com or the Society of Design Administration Canada (SDA) website at www.sdacanada.com.

Each month, over 160,000 Torontonians access hunger relief programs sponsored by the Daily Bread Food Bank. CANstruction puts a visual spotlight on hunger while showcasing the ingenuity of the GTA’s design community. This is one competition where everyone wins. The event is held at the TD Centre in Toronto, and the structures are built in mid-November and are on display for approximately two weeks to the public.

The entry deadline is 5:00pm on September 23, 2005. November 23, 2005 is Build Night, with the judging taking place the next day. The competition entries will be on display to the public from November 25 – December 9, 2005. For the entry form and additional information, please visit www.canstruction.com.
