Along with three other firms, Winnipeg-based 5468796 Architecture has been shortlisted for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP) for Emerging Architecture for their project entitled OMS Stage.
Announced by the College of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and its Dean Wiel Arets, the prestigious prize aims to recognize an emerging practice with the most outstanding built work in the Americas. The winner, which will be announced later this month, will be awarded a $25,000 prize and an IIT research professorship that will focus on rethinking the metropolis.
The four finalists are:
• Kiltro House in Talca, Pencahue, Chile by Juan Pablo Corvala
• Maximilian’s Schell in Los Angeles, California by Benjamin Ball and Gaston Nogues
• OMS Stage in Winnipeg, Manitoba by 5468796 Architecture
• Poli House in Tome, Bio-Bio Region, Chile by Pezo von Ellrichshausen
An esteemed jury will experience the finalists work first hand before inviting them to present their ideas at the IIT’s legendary S.R. Crown Hall on May 20, 2014.
The 2014 MCHAP jury includes the following:
• Wiel Arets, Dean of the College of Architecture and Rowe Family College of Architecture Dean Endowed Chair at IIT, Chicago
• Kenneth Frampton, Ware Professor of Architecture at GSAPP, Columbia University, New York
• Jorge Francisco Liernur, Architect, Professor at Torcuato Di Tella University, and Researcher of Argentina’s National Council for Scientific and Technical Investigation, Buenos Aires
• Dominique Perrault, Founding Principal, Dominique Perrault Architecture, Paris
• Sarah Whiting, Dean and William Ward Watkin Professor, Rice School of Architecture, Houston
