2014 London Festival of Architecture

Visitors to the London Festival of Architecture will discover a wealth of activities throughout the month, from exhibitions and film screenings to walking tours and cycle rides, that offer new ways to explore the city, connect with leading architects and engage with contemporary urban issues. For the entire month of June, over 150 activities will be taking place at different venues across London – and on the city’s streets.

Headline events address the theme for the 2014 festival of “capital” in its various manifestations, from London’s place as the UK’s seat of government and finance, its flows of social and intellectual capital, the politics of regeneration and its impact on the city and its position as a world capital of architecture, through its practices and its built environment.

Highlights include author Will Self on architecture. Will Self is one of the foremost critical voices about London’s urban character, writing with polemical force about architecture and its power to change the physical character of the city. In his talk entitled, “When Liquid turns to Solid: the Spatialisation of Capital Flows in 21st-Century London, he explores the theme of capital in relation to new architecture in the city, followed by conversation with writer and journalist Andy Beckett and then takes questions from the audience.

Other headline events include: The Death and Life of Great London High Streets, Thomas Heatherwick & Dan Pearson on The Garden Bridge Project, Does London Need More Tall Towers? And Housing Londoners: Is it Just a Numbers Game?
