2013 CISC British Columbia Steel Design Awards of Excellence

The Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) is the national industry organization representing the structural steel, open web steel joist and steel platework fabricating industries. Formed in 1930, CISC is a non-profit industry association. CISC operates as a technical, marketing and government relations organization that promotes good design and safety, as well as the efficient, economical and sustainable use of structural steel.

Events such as the CISC BC Region Steel Design Awards of Excellence create networking opportunities for architects, engineers, building official, contractors and other stakeholders in the fabrication industry.

Architectural: Steel Buildings or structures in which architectural considerations predominantly influence the design, particularly those with exposed steelwork. (All building types and bridges.)

Engineering: Steel structures in which engineering considerations and the efficient use of steel in unique applications are the predominant factor. (All building types and bridges.)

Sustainability: Steel structure in which steel has been used or reused as part of a sustainable development project that aims to improve environmental impact of the structure by using innovative practices, standards and technologies.

An “Intention to Submit” form is to be completed online and submitted by March 7, 2013. All forms can be downloaded from the CISC website at www.cisc.ca/awards/British Columbia/2013. This web page has a number of PDF documents providing you with more information.

Please include: a brief written description including a discussion of factors considered and reasons why the steel solution was selected; at least five high-resolution (300 dpi) electronic images in JPEG format of the finished product and PowerPoint images on CD; and the names of the individuals or firms to be credited with the images.

The deadline for the intention to submit is March 7, 2013, and the project submission deadline is April 11, 2013.
