2005 Interior Design Show lineup announced

The seventh annual Interior Design Show runs from Thursday, February 10 to Sunday, February 13 at the National Trade Centre in Toronto. The concept spaces exhibit will, for the first time, involve participating firms from outside of Toronto. The four teams are: Alsop & Partners with Brown & Storey Architects, Saucier + Perrotte, Hudson Kruse, and the Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design, University of Toronto. The teams will each create a unique space by interpreting the concept of “Material.”

Also featured at the show will be a special installation of 3rd UNCLE’s design work. The firm has been named as 2005 Designer of the Year. Principals John Tong, Arriz Hassam and Paul Syme are responsible for the renovation and interior design of the award-winning Drake Hotel, workplace designs for MAC Cosmetics and Shift Magazine, retail spaces such as Lululemon Athletica, and residential custom homes and lofts. The firm is currently working on the Royal Ontario Museum theatre.

The show will feature a diverse program of international speakers including Lady Weinberg, Anouska Hempel who pioneered the “boutique” hotel in London, England. Trade Talks, the lecture series held on Trade Day on Friday is open to the design and architectural industry only. This year’s lineup features speakers Michael and Stephen Maharam, Fernando and Humberto Campana, and Winy Maas. The Maharam brothers are principals of New York-based Maharam, North America’s leading supplier of contract textiles. The Campana brothers are a Brazilian furniture design team whose work has been displayed at the Museum of Modern Art and the London Design Museum. Maas is a principal architect at elite Netherlands design firm MVRDV. The Design Talks series on Saturday and Sunday is open to all show attendees, and features interior designer Brian Gluckstein, landscape architect Ron Holbrook, celebrity party planner extraordinaire Elizabeth Harrison, and restaurateurs Guy and Michael Rubino.

The 2005 show will include two brand new themed areas, as well as a popular returning special feature. La Cucina, dedicated to the kitchen industry, will feature manufacturers, designers and distributors of kitchen hardware, cabinetry, floor and lighting fixtures and accessories. Exterior Design will showcase the “outside world” as landscape architects, designers, manufacturers and distributors feature outdoor lighting, furniture and ornamental products. Returning is the critically acclaimed Studio North exhibit, showcasing some of Canada’s top design studios and designer-makers.
