2003 Ontario Concrete Awards

The Ontario Concrete Awards, now in its third year, has announced its winners, which include five awards and three honourable mentions. In the Architectural Merit category, an award went to Diamond and Schmitt Architects Incorporated for the cast-in place concrete/precast concrete Bahen Centre for Information Technology at the University of Toronto (see CA, January 2003; honourable mentions went to Moriyama and Teshima Architects for the Allan Earp Residence at Brock University and to IKOY Architects Ltd. for the School of Information Technology and Engineering at the University of Ottawa (see CA, July 2003). In the Structural Design Innovation category, an award went to Carruthers & Wallace Ltd. for the cast-in-place concrete Lester B. Pearson International Airport parking garage and an honourable mention to Yolles Partnership Inc. for Pantages Place. In the Specialty Concrete Products / Applications category, awards went to Johnson Building Construction Inc.’s tilt-up construction Forbes Investments Inc. and to Dufferin Construction Co. for the shoring system Elevated Frontage Roads. In the Material Development and Innovation category, Dufferin Concrete received the award for the cast-in-place concrete Concrete-Filled Columns at the GTAA New Terminal.
The Ontario Concrete Awards are held in order to raise awareness of concrete as Ontario’s primary construction material, and to highlight the work of architects, engineers, contractors and owners who have contributed to the industry.
