An immediate opportunity exists for an entry-level Assistant Editor to support the Editors of Canadian Interiors, Building and Canadian Architect.

As part of IQ Business Media, the Assistant Editor is responsible for producing web content and managing social media accounts in support of the magazine brands, including Canadian Interiors, Building and Canadian Architect.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized and detail-oriented candidate with strong writing skills, an eye for aesthetics, and a passion for design culture and social media innovations. The candidate should have a degree in journalism or a combination of schooling, industry knowledge and demonstrated experience for this entry-level position.

The ideal candidate also has experience in using web content management systems and programs including WordPress, Hootsuite, InCopy, and Photoshop. They have a strong understanding of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Additionally, some experience in video production, including familiarity with editing software such as FinalCut Pro or Adobe PremierePro/AfterEffects, is a strong asset.

The Assistant Editor’s responsibilities include sourcing, editing and uploading images and content to the websites, creating newsletters, managing social media accounts and general support of the magazines.

Through this position, the successful candidate will build an understanding of the best practices for day-to-day management of brand websites and social media accounts, producing and optimizing content that will drive user engagement. In addition, they will develop familiarity with the operations of magazines with both a print and digital component.
