Le Corbusier Pen, Card Case and Architect's Pencil in production

2012-10-12

ACME Studio, a manufacturer of superior design objects and accessories, has introduced the “Le Modulor” rollerball pen and business card case, and the “Ronchamp” architect’s pencil. Based upon the famous architect, designer, urbanist and writer’s “Le Modulor” theory, formulated in 1942 to facilitate architecture on a human scale, the pen and card case feature a black background with silver imagery and Le Corbusier’s signature on each piece, while the architect’s pencil features Le Corbusier’s signature on a black background and his black drawing of a hand on the silver grip.

Born Charles-Edouard Jeanneret-Gris in 1887 in Switzerland, Le Corbusier is most famous for being one of the pioneers of modern architecture. His career spanned five decades, with his buildings constructed throughout Europe, India, Japan and America. He was a pioneer in studies of modern high design and was dedicated to providing better living conditions for the residents of crowded cities. In 1918, Le Corbusier met the Cubist painter Amédée Ozenfant. Rejecting Cubism as irrational and “romantic”, the pair jointly published their manifesto Après le Cubisme and established a new artistic movement, Purism. They also established the Purist journal L’Esprit Nouveau. It was Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye (1929–1931) that most succinctly summed up his five points of architecture that he had elucidated in L’Esprit Nouveau and his book Vers une Architecture. By 1927, Le Corbusier was among the world’s leading practitioners of architecture. He died in 1965 in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France.

From a pen by Richard Meier or Shigeru Ban to a pair of cuff links by Massimo Vignelli, ACME Studio is a leading manufacturer and distributor of products and accessories designed by the world’s foremost architects, artists and designers. ACME’s first appearance in 1985 consisted of a collection of accessories designed by Peter Shire of the renowned Memphis Group, which changed the face of jewelry just as Memphis changed the face of design. Founded by husband-and-wife team of Adrian Olabuenaga and Lesley Bailey, ACME Studios has elevated the standard for fine writing instruments by pushing the boundaries of production while maintaining the highest standard of quality and integrity. Nominated for multiple design awards including the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award, ACME’s product is distributed by leading retailers and museums, with multiple shop-in-shops and freestanding flagship stores worldwide.
