Once again, the wildly popular One of Kind Christmas Show and Sale returns to the Direct Energy Centre at Exhibition Place in Toronto. In its ongoing quest to discover and celebrate Canadian artisans and designers, the 2012 One of a Kind Christmas Show promises to be the best show yet with an ever increasing offering of top-notch talent.
Canada’s national craft show has come a long way since its debut in 1975 to feature today over 800 pre-selected artisans and designers – including 160 new artisans this year – who create original pieces across various key categories such as home décor, jewellery, fashion, food and fine art, to name a few. In its evolution, the One of a Kind Show has attracted a younger audience from artisans to attendees, who are surprised at the calibre of work. Innovation and design of limited-production pieces – handcrafted by a diverse group of Canadians – which are available at one destination twice a year, in winter and spring, encapsulate the show.
The show features over 800 dazzling Canadian artisans and thousands of handmade holiday gifts. Attend designer DIY workshops, designer seminars, fashion shows and feature exhibits. The One of a Kind Hall of Fame returns, as do the One of a Kind Neighbourhoods, which allow visitors to peruse artisans’ wares in a more efficient and organized manner.
New this year, the Under the Mistletoe Artist Competition challenges exhibitors to create an interesting piece using their medium based on an “Under the Mistletoe” theme. A panel of judges will award prizes on November 22nd: 1st prize is $500, 2nd prize is $300, 3rd prize is $200, and the People’s Choice prize is $200.
Not only is there an opportunity to discover artisans for the first time, the One of a Kind Christmas Show is regarded by thousands of show-goers as the “official kick-off” to the holiday shopping season with an array of handmade gifts that one can’t find at the mall. This year the show will run for 11 days, starting on November 22 and wrapping up on December 2, 2012.
The One of a Kind Christmas Show is Canada’s best show and sale of works by over 800 artists, designers and craftspeople. With a proud focus on homegrown talent for an interactive personal shopping experience like no other, the vast selection, on-site perks and endless show features make the show “destination shopping” at its best.
